The decisions that come before the project
Build or buy. Which ERP. Cloud or the server in the corner. What any of it costs. These are written to be genuinely even-handed — including where the honest answer is that you do not need us.
Custom software or an off-the-shelf ERP?
The honest version: most businesses should buy, and the ones that should build usually know why.
A packaged ERP is the right answer more often than software firms admit. Here is how to tell which side of the line you are on, before anyone quotes you.
Tally, SAP Business One, or Odoo?
Three systems that are not really competitors, compared as though they were — because that is how the decision arrives.
These three come up together constantly, despite solving different problems. What actually separates them is how much process you have, and who will maintain it.
What ERP implementation actually costs in India
Nobody publishes numbers, so every conversation starts from zero. Here are the variables that move them.
Most firms answer this with 'it depends, contact us'. It does depend — on a small number of things you can assess yourself before anyone quotes you.
Cloud or on-premise, for an Indian business
Cloud is usually right, and usually not cheaper. Both halves of that sentence matter.
The cost comparison people run is the wrong one, because it compares a server against a server and ignores everything the server needs to keep working.
Build or buy?
A decision usually made on price, better made on who owns the problem in three years.
The question is rarely which is cheaper. It is which liability you would rather hold — a vendor's roadmap, or your own maintenance.
Voice AI or a better IVR?
Some call flows do not need understanding. They need fewer menu levels.
A well-designed IVR is cheaper, more predictable, and adequate for a surprising share of what businesses try to solve with Voice AI.
RPA or proper API integration?
One drives the screen a person would have used. The other talks to the system directly. They fail very differently.
RPA is the right answer when there is genuinely no interface. It is the wrong answer, expensively, when there is one and nobody looked.
Fractional CTO or your first senior hire?
You need senior technical judgement. Whether you need it full-time is a separate question.
Most growing businesses need decisions made well more than they need someone present every day. Those are different roles at very different cost.
What custom software actually costs to build
The build is the deposit. The running cost is the mortgage, and it is rarely quoted.
Most quotes cover version one. The questions that matter are what year two costs and what is excluded from the number you were given.
What a cloud migration costs
The monthly bill is the visible number and rarely the important one.
Migration cost is dominated by application work, not by infrastructure. And the ongoing bill is a design decision, not a fixed price.
How long these projects really take
Timelines slip for a small number of predictable reasons, and none of them are technical.
The variables that decide a schedule are data quality, decision speed, and how many processes change at once. Nothing else comes close.
Would rather just ask?
These questions are usually settled faster in a conversation, especially the ones where the answer depends on numbers only you have.
